Bimetals & Engineered Clads

Specialty Clad Metals

Utilizing over 40 years of cladding experience, HOOD can combine the properties of up to five dissimilar metals utilizing state of the art cold roll bonding. Cladding of dissimilar metals can optimize material choices and reduce the use of expensive materials.

Target Features:

  • Reduced costs
  • Reduced weight
  • Tailored mechanical attributes
  • Custom electrical properties
  • Improved corrosion resistance

A Variety of Materials:

  • Steels, stainless and alloyed steels
  • Nickel alloys
  • Copper alloys
  • Controlled expansion alloys
  • High yield strength alloys

Detail:

A thermostatic bimetal is a composite made of two or more thin metal components with different coefficient of thermal expansion, bounded together. Bimetals can be used to transform changes in temperature into changes in shape, mechanical force or any combination of both in various ways. They can be used both as sensor and actuator. This accounts for the wide spread use of bimetals in:

  • Competitive priced measuring and control instruments
  • Temperature control switches and valves
  • Compensation elements used in electrical engineering, heat technology and the automotive industry
